Hockham Magna village sign
A double sided sign with one side dedicated to remembering the Hockham Magna Horn Fair where itinerant sellers of heather and trinkets also gathered. The reverse shows Joseph Ashton, commonly called Tinker Joe, who died in this parish in 1881, aged 112. He’s shown with pots and pans attached to a cord over his shoulder, his horse and cart wait patiently between him and his(?) thatched cottage. Wildlife is represented by a reddish grey squirrel, a grey partridge and a rabbit. Perhaps the partridge isn’t just any old partridge, but a representative of Henry Thomas Partridge, Esq., J.P. to whom much of the parish belonged. The flora consists of various greenery including cowslips, broom and holly.

The Hockham Stone, a glacial erratic
The huge sandstone boulder on the village green was actually found in a pit about ¾ of a mile away, and moved to its present site around 1880. It has no ancient significance, but the custom has now arisen for the stone to be turned over on special occasions, beginning with Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. This considerable effort by the community has also taken place in 1977 for Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, in 1995 to mark 50 years since V.E. day, at the Millennium, and for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. In April 2008 it was turned to celebrate the fact that Hockham Woods had been saved from quarrying, and in 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee.
