Occold St. Michael's church
The church has Norman origins but little remains to be seen. A slit window in the north wall is partially covered by the wall of the ‘new’ vestry. On the south side, there is a lovely hood-mould over the chancel window. There is little else to see outside except the SE buttress, which is parting company with the tower. A rather plain font is awaiting a carver; the cover is in the form of a crown. The Royal Arms are of Charles II and the lion is straight from Oz. Behind the lovely old richly carved (1620) pulpit, complete with sounding board, is a 14th century piscina. There are four traceried panels that probably once formed part of the rood screen. In the sanctuary is a single misericorde. Nearby is the piscina with cusped arch and a somewhat expected dropped-sill style sedilia.
