St Cross South Elmham village sign
'Cross' is not the name of a saint but refers to the cross of St George, (a 3rd century soldier in the Roman army) who is said to have slain an imaginary dragon as depicted on the sign. It is impossible for him to have ever fought a dragon, and even more unlikely that he ever visited England, and he was never heard of in England until 500 years after he was tortured and beheaded. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6783535
