Former New Cut Malting house
This building dates from 1898, and replaced an earlier brewery built in 1836 before the repeal of the Malt Tax in 1880. Malt was carried by train to London and the Midlands. In 1920 the Maltings was taken over by Watney, Combe, Reid and Co. eventually closing in 1967. It served for a short time as a joinery factory but has since been converted into an arts centre known as The Cut. Inside the main entrance is #8 of a series of information boards entitled "Halesworth - a historic malt town". Image
