Cratfield St Mary?s church
Cratfield is renowned for its 15th c. seven sacrament font beautifully carved in stone. It stands on two steps, the upper is quatrefoiled and the main shaft has the four evangelists. The panels of the octagonal bowl are also delicately carved and the whole is quite exceptional. Also quite exceptionally, the parish accounts go back to 1490. The fabric of the building dates from the 15th c. and the tower is contemporary with the church although the traceried parapet was added in 1547. On the buttress of the nave there is a scratch dial. The west door has a carving of a wodewose on the jamb, more commonly found on fonts.
