A Green Bus in Southwold
This photo shows a green bus in the High Street waiting to depart on an excursion following the route of the former Southwold Railway which ran between Southwold and Halesworth. That railway opened on the 24th September 1879 and closed on the 12th April 1929, so it saw nearly fifty years service. The bus is 2485 (OVL 494) a 1960 Bristol SC4LK with Eastern Coach Works B35F bodywork formerly operated by the Lincolnshire Road Car Co.Ltd, but now seeing further service in Southwold. It is known as Olive by the new bus operator. Incidentally, SC in SC4LK stands for Small Capacity, whilst 4LK stands for the Gardner 4LK engine of 3.8 litres capacity which powered the vehicle.
