Yoxford St Peter?s church
The elegant spire above the embattled tower is in perfect proportion to the rest of the building. Sitting very comfortably in a large churchyard, a little higher than the road, the 14th century church has been very much restored, but still retains some interesting things to see. The font is dated to the early 15th century and is quite unusual. A 16th century altar tomb which once stood in the chancel has been badly mutilated. The pulpit and holy table are both Stuart period. Many notable locals are remembered here, many in brasses others in wall plaques. They include David Elisha Davy; Ann More a.k.a. Ann Candler; Sir Charles Blois, wounded at Waterloo, buried here 40 years later; Tomasine Tendryng; John Norwiche; Anthony Cooke; Joan Brooke and Christian Foxe.
