Bell Hotel, High Street
The view south down Saxmundham High Street, featuring the Bell Hotel. King George II dropped in at the coaching inn during January 1737 to change horses on his way to Ipswich - the inn had stables for 40 horses, and 6 acres of pasture. However the present building dates from 1842.

Houses in the centre of Saxmundham
These old houses, one a former pub, front onto the Market Place, but are here viewed from High Street. Like Wells' shop (extreme left) they received impact damage in the 2nd World War from bombs that fortunately failed to explode. This road was the A12 until Saxmundham was by-passed.
