Plaque in memory of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie VC, Theberton war memorial
This plaque at the foot of the memorial commemorates local man Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for actions at Gallipoli. The War Memorial at Theberton
Before WW2 a gun formed part of this War Memorial. It was presented to the parish in recognition of the valour of local man Charles H.M. Doughty-Wylie at Gallipoli on 26th April 1915 when he charged the guns and was killed. The gun was removed during WW2 and has never been returned.
