Water Lane is the smaller of two fords of the River Deben in Debenham. This one is about 70 yards long, from Image to here. The other is over a half mile in length. Most of the time it is no more than this trickle but can get very deep.

Water Lane - what's in a name?
Despite it being a wet June day, the River Deben is not flowing through/across this lane like it habitually does. Evidence of the historical need to acknowledge the watercourse is in the buttress walls, elevated cottages and raised pavements.
