Ashfield cum Thorpe St Mary
This church was built in 1853. Nothing remains of the earlier church except some woodwork which has been utilised in the construction of an altar and prayer desk. It is an unattractive brick-built edifice, difficult to park near and even more difficult to photograph, being largely surrounded by mature trees. The earlier church stood in ruins for over 100 years and St Peter’s chapel at Thorpe, which had been renovated in 1739, became the parish church and the place of worship until this, the present church was built. St Peter’s then fell into decay.
