Framlingham: former railway goods shed
The Wickham Market Junction to Framlingham branch line opened in 1859 and closed to passengers in 1952 and to goods in 1965. School specials ran at the beginnings and ends of terms until 1958. There was a big traffic in grain and the goods yard is still flanked by mills and granaries, now the property of Walnes Seeds Ltd. The two-windowed lean-to is the goods office (with fireplace and chimney); rails ran through the arch to its right and perishable goods and things which needed to be kept dry were unloaded from vans and tarpaulin-sheeted open wagons on to a platform inside the goods shed. Coal, timber, bricks and the like were unloaded in the open.

Framlingham: former railway station
This picture shows the remains of the station platform wall. The platform and the track were to its left. The blue industrial building beyond is Andy Tiernan British Motor Cycles' adaptation and extension of the old station building. The slate-roofed building in the background on the right is The Station public house. The Wickham Market Junction to Framlingham branch opened in 1859 and closed to passengers in 1952 and to goods in 1965; school specials continued to run at the beginnings and ends of terms until 1958.

Framlingham railway station and pub
The railway station was on the Framlingham Branch line which ran between this station and Wickham Market on the East Suffolk Line. The line opened in 1859 and passenger services stopped in 1952. Goods services stopped in 1963.

Framlingham: on the platform of the former railway station
Framlingham railway station is now the workshops and showroom of Andy Tiernan British Motorcycles, and is full of classic bikes. As always, the words "We're sad men interested in railways" proved the open sesame, and we were invited in and shown the site of the platform (on which I stood to take this picture) and other relics of former times, including the dark blue British Railways (Eastern Region) enamel sign on the door.

Former railway station, Framlingham: platform canopy column and bracket
Framlingham railway station is now the workshops and showroom of Andy Tiernan British Motorcycles, and is full of classic bikes. As always, the words "We're sad men interested in railways" proved the open sesame, and we were invited in and shown the site of the platform (on which I stood to take this picture) and other relics of former times, including cast-iron columns and brackets which originally supported the platform canopy. A loco lamp and a modern repro warning notice are further reminders of the building's original purpose.
