Headstone in Ufford churchyard
The stone is badly eroded and the name had been lost, only the date of 1814 is legible. The tools of a gardener are nevertheless still clear to see. Spade, shears, string line and a tool I can't identify (right of the spade which looks like a thumbscrew).

St Mary's church in Ufford - C15 font cover
St Mary's church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939143 was built on the site of an older place of worship but as we see it today it dates mainly from the 14th century. The porch was built in around 1475. The exterior walls are decorated with flushwork motifs and corbel heads and gargoyles can be seen higher up. A carved dog > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939157 can be spotted on one of the diagonal tops of the porch. The church houses the original 15th century octagonal font and the rood screen dado > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939167 has survived also, albeit with the paintwork badly scratched and faded. The hammerbeam roof in the nave is adorned with 19th century carved angels that replaced the original ones. The south aisle chapel was restored by architect Ninian Comper in 1919. He also designed the unusual memorial window > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939177 and one of the windows on the north wall > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939192. The church has a set of exquisitely carved benches > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1939178 dating from the mid-1500s, and an intricately carved, painted and gilded C15 font cover that is 5.50 metres high and counterweighted so that it can be raised for baptisms.
