Church tower and lychgate of St John the Baptist

Campsea Ashe St John the Baptist church
The tower is 14th c. and the internal structure is exposed. A small spirelet sits above the 76 feet tall tower with a weathervane on top. Unfortunately, the church was almost completely rebuilt in the 18th c. and very little remains of the original structure and contents.

Campsea Ash, St John the Baptist: porch and tower
The seminal “Guide to Suffolk Churches” (Mortlock, D.P: Cambridge, The Lutterworth Press, 2009 revision ISBN 978 0 7188 3076 2) informs us that the porch was erected to commemorate the coronation of King George VI.
