Ipswich Borough Council Arms
The nearest thing Ipswich has to a town sign. Mounted high on their offices in Ipswich and rarely noticed. The arms were confirmed and crest and supporters granted 29th August 1561, and appear to have been based on those of the Cinque Ports and a 13th century seal. The arms are supported by two Horses of the Sea commonly called Neptune's Horses. The crest is a lion holding a ship. Ipswich is not one of the named Cinque Ports but is a large port and was much larger in the past before Felixstowe and Harwich developed at the mouth of the River Orwell. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6790625
