Part of Butley Priory
In the year 1171, Butley Priory was founded as a house for Augustinian Canons. Apart from the magnificent gatehouse, which is now used as a private house, the only surviving part of the priory is an arch, built in 1300, that led out of the south transept. The arch can just be seen in this picture, which was taken from the main road. It stands on private land.
