Alderton St Andrew
Alderton is a peaceful little village with a church which has a dilapidated tower, which has been like this for two hundred years or more. The single remaining bell stands at the west end of the tower on a low gantry. The church itself is much restored. The chancel was completely rebuilt in 1862. The north porch and much of the north wall of the nave are of the original building. In the spandrels of the doorway are carved St. George one side and dragon the other. Septaria, a local brown stone, was used extensively in the original construction as in many other churches in the area.

Missing its tower
The church of St Andrew, Alderton, lost its tower one Sunday morning in 1821, when it collapsed during morning service. It had been progressively falling into disrepair over the previous hundred years. The ruined tower is overgrown with ivy, angelica and elder. The tower of Alderton Church
The tower of this church collapsed in 1821 and for the next 179 years its bell sat on the floor of the nave. The village's Millennium project provided a frame for the bell, which now stands in the churchyard to the west of the tower.
