Eyke All Saints church
It is strange that a church is more renowned for its key than its architecture or treasures. The wards of the key to the original south door form the word ‘IKE’, the old spelling of Eyke. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1928923 The key which hangs on the wall of the nave is a replica. The key to the church today is ordinary and is available at the shop opposite. The church used to have a central tower but it fell into disrepair despite the villagers making a protest to the incumbent. Today what remains of the Norman tower can be seen separating the nave from the chancel by its fine arches. The church was restored in 1867, most of the work being concentrated on the western end of the nave. The font is 14th c. as is the nave roof with the original angels revealed during the 1867 restoration.
