Ivy Lodge and Ivy Lodge Road
Ivy Lodge was one of the gatehouses for Rendlesham Hall. The Hall was demolished in 1949 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendlesham_Hall. Ivy Lodge and the other gatehouse, Woodbridge Lodge, were built to look like gothic ruins. http://thepersephonepost.blogspot.com/2011/02/woodbridge-lodge-rendlesham-suffolk-in.html

Ivy Lodge, Woodbridge Road, Rendlesham
I am indebted to Robert Edwards for the description he gives at Image: "In 1790, two lodges were built for Rendlesham Hall. The hall no longer stands but the lodges have survived, one being Woodbridge Lodge and the other being Ivy Lodge as pictured here. It was built to look like a Norman ruin."

Ivy Lodge entrance to Rendlesham Hall
Rendlesham Hall no longer exists but its two lodge houses still stand. They may look like Norman gatehouses from long ago but they were in fact simply made to look like that when they were built at the end of the eighteenth century.

Ivy Lodge, gatehouse to the former Rendlesham Hall
The gatehouse was built in the early 19th Century as a 'ruin' in mock Romanesque style. The stone is reputed to have been taken from the ruins of Butley Abbey.
