Melton St Andrew?s church
This is Melton’s New Church, obscured by trees and screened by other buildings. The church was started in 1866, consecrated in 1868, and cost £3,400. (How prices have changed!) It was decided to build it in Early English Gothic (12th/13th century) style with geometric tracery. The effect is most pleasing for a modern church. The material used was Kentish rag with dressings of Caen stone. The roof is arch-braced with the braces being supported on hammerbeams. A number of memorials of various dignitaries and benefactors are incorporated in the modern window designs. The font was removed from Melton Old Church LINK > and is a rare and well preserved seven sacraments font; the eighth panel depicts the martyrdom of St Andrew.
