Ipswich St Lawrence?s church
This is another of the town’s churches that is squeezed between other buildings with little room to breathe. The church is basically 15th century although the east wall and window were replaced in 1858. The tower was demolished and rebuilt to 97 feet in 1881/2. It is very extravagant, with flushwork and much decorative stonework with quatrefoil banding, topped battlements and four delicate pinnacles. The belfry openings are large and elaborate. Inside the church very little remains of any historical interest except perhaps a Stuart holy table. There is one notable memorial, to John Baldwin and his wife Joane: it is outside, below the east window, and begs that their souls be prayed for, along with the souls of all Christians.
