Grange Hill: Central Line Grange Hill tunnel western portal
The tunnel is the only one on the former Great Eastern Railway's Woodford and Ilford Branch. It was built in 1903 and extends for about 259 yards or about 237 metres. Since 1948 the railway has been operated as part of London Underground's Central Line. This is the view from the Dacre Gardens footbridge.

Grange Hill: Central Line railway to Chigwell
This is the view from the Dacre Gardens footbridge, looking towards Image which is just around the corner. The railway was built in 1903 by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) as their Woodford to Ilford branch, but has been operated by London Underground's Central Line since 1948. This is also the site of the Great Eastern Railway's Nursery siding, right-hand side of the line. Just north of the railway, the GER had a nursery that produced fresh fruits and vegetables. These were then taken by horse and cart down to the siding, then taken by train to London for use by the Great Eastern Hotel. On the track on the right side the central and outer power rails are broken. On the London Underground, the outer power rail is energized at +420 volts DC, while the central rail between the running rails is energized at −210 volts DC, which combine to provide a traction voltage of 630 volts DC.
