River Roding near Loughton
The meadows beside the Roding are a nature reserve and still very rural even though suburban Loughton and the motorway are only a few hundred metres away.

Sampling in the River Roding
The student is kick-sampling upstream of the bridge. She faces the net upstream and kicks vigorously in front of it. Bottom-dwelling invertebrates are swept into the net.
