Elland New Hall, off Dewsbury Road, Elland
This photo is taken from Dewsbury Road using telephoto, and shows also the barn and farmhouse to the left and a modern house to the right. In the background is the modern commercial development on the flat land beside the River Calder, with Elland Park Wood as a backdrop.

South front of New Hall, off Dewsbury Road, Elland
The Images of England web site has a very long description of this house. To summarise, it was built in the late 15C for Nicholas Savile. It has a timber frame, exposed on the north side. The hall has a front wall built c.1640, with a large mullioned and transomed window. The appearance of this is spoilt by external double-glazing. There have been various extensions and alterations from the 18C to 20C. See also photo of the hall and porch.

Hall and porch of New Hall, off Dewsbury Road, Elland
The enormous hall window has 27 lights. To the left is a small arch-headed window that lights the gallery. The porch has a magnificent rose window, or more accurately an 'apple and pear' window with the pear-shaped lights giving the impression of rotation. Above, on the right, is a finial carved with a man's head - unfortunately the left finial has gone. The doorway has fluted columns each side, but seems now to be used for storage.

New Hall barn and farmhouse, off Dewsbury Road, Elland
Next to New Hall is this large barn with attached house. The stone of the house looks different from that of the barn, whereas the roof is the same all the way along.
