I thought at the time that I was on Elland Footpath 75/1, but that path is further to the west and reaches the main road via Sowood Fold.

The sweeping curve, Green Lane, Sowood, Stainland
This is what is left of the hamlet of Sowood. The old turnpike road was quite narrow here until widened in the mid-20C and the tall retaining wall built. One of the buildings that were demolished was the Old Red Lion public house.
