Siddal Lane, Halifax
A long, long line of town houses in blocks of four. On the right an important-looking building has been converted to flats, but the 1907 1:2500 map gives no clue as to what it was.

View of Siddal from Coal Pit Lane, Halifax
The subject position is amongst the rows of houses running diagonally across the scene. This is the suburb of Siddal, perched above the deep valley of Hebble Brook. On the far side of this a dark line of trees marks the position of the railway line, and beyond that the built-up area of Halifax stretches up to the horizon. Although the camera was tilted only slightly downwards, Wainhouse Tower at top left appears to be leaning alarmingly.

Kirkdale Laundry
The business is on the corner of Oxford Lane and Browning Avenue, Siddal. Although it may look closed here, a sign on the door indicated that it had only shut for the proprietors' summer holiday.
