The plantation, mainly of birch, is quite extensive, covering about 2.5 hectares, the site of a former quarry.

Ruins adjacent to Delph Hill Lane, Luddenden
Older maps show a row of four cottages here. The date of demolition is unknown but the self-seeded trees look to be at least twenty years old.

Delph Hill Lane at the junction with Pin Hill Lane
Both these old lanes are Sowerby Bridge Bridleway 25. The chimney belongs to Oates Mills, which are now converted to apartments.

Centre section of Delph Hill Lane, Luddenden
This path leads straight down the hillside to Oats Royd Mills, so was probably used by mill workers living in surrounding farms. This central part is only a bridleway.
