Construction of the present church began in 1978. It was designed and built by Lanner Limited of Wakefield. It was extended in 2007. (Source: Malcolm Bull’s Calderdale Companion) It replaced two previous churches including the chapel just up the road Image

Cross Street West
This street is unusually wide with a central reservation, but is not a dual carriageway, i.e. both sides are for two-way traffic. Cross Street was originally just the left hand side; the right hand side was a later extension of Reservoir Road.

Bar of the New Street pub
At the time of my visit they were serving two Yorkshire ales. Thanks to the 'soggy Saturday' offer (50p off a pint) two drinks cost under £6, quite a bargain these days. See Image for the outside.

The New Street, Sutcliffe Street, Pellon
Described by CAMRA as a 'Classic end-of-terrace local, remodelled by Webster's brewery in 1935, architects Jackson and Fox. Virtually unchanged from that time, CAMRA unsuccessfully sought statutory listing in 2009. It remains a locals' pub, off the beaten track except for the discerning ale drinker. The green name board is in the style of Webster's, a local brewery that closed in the 1980s. The terrace referred to was behind the pub, and has been demolished. New Street was to the right in this view but is now merely a stub of a street.
