In 1840 Apostle Wilford Woodruff of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon or LDS) stayed with John and Jane Benbow at Hill Farm, Castle Frome, and baptised many converts in the farm pond.

Benbow's Pond at The Hill
It is said that 2,000 Mormons from the USA visit this site every year as it plays a central role in the early history of their religion. Early converts were baptised in this pond circa 1840.
