Bar Spirit, 32 Union Street
Although the name outside says Spirit, and this is also on the ground floor windows, the official name is apparently Bar Spirit. The building is on the corner of Union Street and Gaol Street. There has been a pub of some sort here for a long time. In the 1875/76 edition of Littlebury's Herefordshire Directory & Gazetteer, there is mention of a White Horse Inn at this address. At one time the pub sold the beers of the long defunct West Country Breweries Ltd of Cheltenham, and may well have been owned by them.

Shire Hall, Hereford
The Shirehall was built in 1819 by Charles Heather under the instruction of Sir Robert Smirke on the site of a former Gaol. The building is Grade II listed and the home of the Crown Court.

Shire Hall and war memorial
Looking north-east across St Peters Square. The Shire Hall was designed by Sir Robert Smirke and built in 1818. The eight Doric columns at the front are based on the Temple of Theseus in Athens. The building is the home of the Crown Court and is also used for concerts. In front of the Shire Hall is a bronze statue of Sir George Cornewall-Lewis, the Liberal MP for Herefordshire. He was Chancellor of Exchequer (1855-58), Home Secretary (1859-61) and Secretary of War (1861-63). In the centre of the square is the imposing war memorial.
