Wychwood Racecourse at Bekonscot Model Village

Roland Callingham Memorial at Bekonscot Model Village
This photo shows the memorial stone to Roland Callingham who in the mid-1920s bought several parcels of land, dug a pond, built a few model houses, to which a friend, James Shilcock, added a model railway. Roland Callingham later called the village Bekonscot, 'Bekon' meaning 'beech trees' from 'Beaconsfield' and 'scot' from 'Ascot' the two places where he had lived. The wording on the stone is as below: ROLAND R CALLINGHAM 1879 to 1961 Founder & Creator of BEKONSCOT 1929

Houses and lawn at Bekonscot Model Village
This photo shows model houses which used to be on display at Castlewolde model village in Cliftonville Kent. They were transferred to Bekonscot when Castlewolde closed to the public in 2003.
