Beechwood Avenue, Little Chalfont
Beechwood Avenue at Little Chalfont is the epitome of 'Metroland'. It is within walking distance of Chalfont & Latimer station and yet just to the north is the Chess Valley and fine open countryside - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6270562

Tree cutting next to the railway
As we arrived the gang cutting the trees alongside the railway line were just packing up. They seem to have a done a good job here, albeit now exposing all the litter that accumulates in these sorts of areas.

Chalfont & Latimer station
The Metropolitan Railway's extension to Rickmansworth from the previous terminus at Pinner was opened on 1st September 1887. It was extended to Cahlfont & Latimer (then called Chalfont Road) in 1889 and was further extended on 1st September 1892 as part of the Metropolitan Railway extension from Chalfont Road to Aylesbury. From 16th March 1899, the Great Central Railway also served the station through its extension to Marylebone. On 12th September 1960, the tracks from Rickmansworth to Amersham were electrified.
A little way ahead the line splits with the branch to Chesham leaving the main line to Amersham. The distance from Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham is also the longest distance between two stations on the Underground system at nearly four miles. An Aylesbury bound Chiltern Line train is just leaving the down platform.
