Grand Union Canal, opposite Swan Mead, Hemel Hempstead (1 of 3)
The relatively modern housing development on the opposite side of the canal comprises roads named after a selection of British birds associated with water. These include Kingfisher, Mallard, Heron, Teal and Bittern. Moored alongside the towpath are several narrowboats that might have spent the winter here.

Grand Union Canal, opposite Swan Mead, Hemel Hempstead (3 of 3)
This view affords a closer look at some narrowboats moored alongside the canal towpath. In the background is a new-looking footbridge providing access from houses on the opposite side of the canal to a business park called Doolittle Meadows. The footbridge is about 290 metres from the viewpoint.

Grand Union Canal, opposite Swan Mead, Hemel Hempstead (2 of 3)
A small number of narrowboats has probably been moored here since the previous year. The weeping willows on the opposite bank obscure a relatively modern housing development.

Lock Cottage and Nash Mills Lock, Hemel Hempstead
The cottage is in near original condition. Of note is the large bay window to enable the lock keeper to see the traffic on the adjacent Grand Union Canal. On the other side of the canal is part of a new canalside residential development.
