Fishing on the canal
Is it me or have herons become bolder in the last few years. A decade ago this one would have flown away long before our boat drew parallel with it. This one just stayed on the bank and let us pass. As can be seen, this is a very urban area anyway for a heron to be waiting to catch its next meal.

B&Q at Boxmoor wharf, Grand Union Canal, Hemel Hempstead
This site was the goods wharf on the Grand Junction Canal serving the Hemel Hempstead area. It later became a depot for Roses Lime Juice and today hosts a B&Q DIY supermarket. The former Kodak Tower, now known as the Image apartment building can be seen beyond the store.

Over-flow of River Gade on Grand Union Canal
The River Gade joins the canal about 100 metres West of here, and the excess water is taken off here to flow behind a row of cottages and into the River Bulbourne.
