St. James the Great, Bierton
This substantial church sits squarely in a surprisingly small churchyard making it quite difficult to get a photo showing the whole of the church. It is situated next to St. Osyth's Well (see other photos for this square).
The pigeon is in flight - not stuck to the church wall !

Well Protected !
This is the actual water in St. Osyth's Well - My camera could sneak through the bars but nothing much bigger than a squirrel could get in for a drink !

St. Osyth's Well, Bierton
The ancient well in Bierton known as St. Osyth's Well is now well protected (if you'll excuse the pun). St. Osyth was a granddaughter of the famous Mercian King Penda. She was born about 650AD in nearby Quarrendon and married Sigehere, King of Essex in about 665AD.

The Village Pump
This pump is next to St.Osyth's Well in Bierton and no doubt was once the main water supply for the village.

Pond near St. Osyth's Well, Bierton
This attractive duckweed covered pond is near to St. Osyth's well - and I would guess shares the same natural water supply.

Bierton houses
These old houses are on Parson's Lane and back onto the churchyard. One at least of them having a gate into the churchyard, so probably originally the vicarage, or possibly for a verger.

North Door, St. James the Great, Bierton
This is a very pretty avenue up to the North Door of the church. Note the little saint, presumably St. James, in his little niche above the door.
