Details of this church are at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42596#s5 . Being the neighbouring village to Creslow, St John’s took over its parishioners when the Creslow chapel Image closed in about 1558 after Queen Elizabeth came to the throne http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42572&strquery=Parish%20Creslow#s3. Whitchurch registers therefore include Creslow from that time. However the record shows that Creslow parishioners denied "the right of the Vicar of Whitchurch to tithes etc". Although Creslow inhabitants buried their dead at Whitchurch, exceptions were granted. In particular it seems that Bennett Mayne, his son Joseph and others of the family at Creslow Image were allowed to be buried among their relations at Hoggeston Image
