Aylesbury: Vale Park
A few days before this photograph was taken, Aylesbury Vale District Council, who are responsible for the management of the park, won a prestigious Green Flag Award http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk/ for the very first time for it. The award – the equivalent of the blue flag for coastal resorts – recognises excellence in parks and open spaces.
The design of Vale Park was originally drawn up by Thomas Mawson and Son, but the scheme was never implemented. Instead a design drawn up by the Borough Council Engineer, William Harold Taylor, probably influenced and possibly guided by Mawson, was eventually built. The park was formally opened in 1937.
