Putlowes Cottages
These cottages used to be on the main A41 Aylesbury-to-Bicester road near to quite a severe bend in the road. Some years ago this bend was smoothed out however, creating a little cut-off section of road rather like an oxbow lake is created on a river. This has resulted in these cottages being in a far quieter and more secluded location than they were originally.

Macrolepiota in the wayside
There were a number of these large fungi along the disused road past Putlowes Cottages. They are probably rather over-the-hill Macrolepiota procera (Parasol mushroom), but having achieved such maturity many of their salient distinguishing features have degraded - certainly not ones to risk eating ! Most of the small Lepiotas are poisonous whereas their larger brothers the Macrolepiotas are nearly all edible. Care should be taken however not to confuse any of the Macrolepiotas with the deadly Amanitas such as Panther Cap (Amanita pantherina).

The Old Road, Fleet Marston
The A41 has been straightened since the 1940s map was produced as this was the old course of the road. The old road is still drivable past Putlowes Cottages, but a little further on it is intentionally blocked by disused farm machinery and continues as this track.
