Long dogs at the Long Dog
Coloured in by local schoolchildren, these brighten up the area behind the bar in the Long Dog Inn at Waddesdon. Taken on film without flash (and with the barman's permission!)

The Long Dog pub sign
This sign always catches my eye when I drive through the village. I dropped in for a beer when I was parked up for the night at the far end of town and it's a nice little pub. Well worth a visit. Some of Waddesdon's many eyecatching buildings are visible in the background, probably part of Waddesdon Manor which was established by the Rothschild family of banking dynasty fame.

Waddesdon church
Taken from across the grid line. St Michael and All Angels church was built in the late 12th Century and, as usual, has been tinkered with over the years. Usually the tower is the oldest portion of a church which survives, in my experience (which admittedly is not particularly extensive!), but here it appears that parts of the nave date from the 12th Century while the tower was not built until the late 1500s, and was demolished and rebuilt in the late 1800s. The church was restored in 1863 and again in 1902. Inside is a font which was originally installed in Blenheim Palace chapel but was given to Waddesdon by Charles Spencer - Churchill (yes, the same family as Winston) as a thanksgiving gift for his safe return from the Boer War.
