War Memorial Plaque at Hildreths Garden Centre
This photo shows the war memorial plaque outside The Limes cafe at the Hildreths Garden Centre, 169 Wycombe Road, Prestwood, HP16 0HJ. The wording at the top says:
"In Memory of the Dutch, Canadian and British Airmen who died over and in Prestwood on the 26th August 1944".
In the middle of the plaque is a map of Prestwood where remains of the two Wellington aircraft that collided with each other are shown by fourteen crosses. Eleven names of the airmen who died are listed by the side of this map. Details of this air collision is mentioned in the Prestwood Archive a living history 1941 - 1960, http://prestwoodarchive.org.uk/1941to1960/2014/06/18/two-wellingtons-crash-over-prestwood/ refers.
At the bottom of the plaque is the wording "Dying for a noble cause is not the worst thing that could happen - being forgotten is".

Road Closure in Wycombe Road, Prestwood
This photo shows the A4128 Wycombe Road being closed so that Thames Water can carry out burst sewer works. The blue Thames Water notice on the left says "We're repairing sewers. To protect against flooding and keep the environment safe". on the right, the blue Thames Water notice says "Thank you for your patience. While we work to keep your services at their best" These works are taking place between the 2nd and 14th April 2024 and have affected Carousel Buses route 41 (High Wycombe-Amersham via Great Missenden) as mentioned at https://www.carouselbuses.co.uk/service-41-diversion-2nd-14th-april-2024.
Update: these roadworks were completed on Monday 8th April 2024, earlier than expected.

At the Polecat Inn in Prestwood, Bucks
Recently taken over by a bijou pub chain and invested in and redeveloped to great effect. It has not lost its character. The facilities are just much improved; car park, decor, pods, outside drinking and eating areas etc. Recommended.
