High Wycombe: Bowden Lane railway bridge
The bridge was built to carry Brunel's broad gauge railway to High Wycombe from Maidenhead over Bowden Lane. The railway here crossed the valley of the River Wye on a long high embankment and the photograph gives some indication of the amount of materials that the railway navvies had to manhandle. The railway opened in 1854, but was closed and the track was lifted in 1970. For a view along the trackbed on top of the embankment see Image
