Thornton Watlass
Originally two villages, the present community is tidily arranged around a large triangular green, upon which there is a cricket square. The road in the photograph runs beside the western edge of the village green.

The name Thornton means village on a hill where thorns grow and Watlass means waterless place. The cricket square has been laid out for the coming season.
