The timber framed Wakeman's House stands in the SW corner of Ripon Market Place and was once the official residence of the Wakeman or hornblower, who acted as a constable for the city.

Above the shop I spotted this small disc with a ‘ Golden Tortoise’ mark. It turned out that a gift shop by that name used to occupy these premises.
