Former Spofforth Methodist church, School Lane - datestone
The stone plaque bears a date 1810, and a Biblical inscription: "Turn ye, turn ye, from your evil ways, for why will ye die? Eze[kiel] Chap. 33 v.11". I wonder what the present owners of the building think of this? See Image for context.

Village Hall, Spofforth
This building has the appearance of a school, but is labelled as the Memorial Hall and is dated 1927. The rather garish red brick contrasts with the gritstone of most of the buildings in the village.

Spofforth Primary School, School Lane - datestone
The datestone reads "The Word of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. James Tripp Rector All Saints 1879". The date is that of the Rector's death rather than of the building of the school (1847). According to the church guide leaflet, Tripp was a controversial character, who gave the village its school but also rebuilt the church without the Bishop's permission. See Image for context.
