Parish Church of St John, Bilton
A view from Bilton Lane, though the address of the church is Elm Tree Avenue, which is the road leading up to it between lawns. Much of the church is across a northing gridline, but most of the fabric you can see here is in this square. By Sir George Gilbert Scott, it was originally built in the 1850s http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1315827&searchtype=mapsearch . On the right is the contemporaneous Bilton Library - see Image - which was formerly the vicarage http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1294249&searchtype=mapsearch .

Porch of St John's church
The church of St John the Evangelist, Bilton is listed grade II* (list entry 1315827). It was built 1851-57 by Sir George Gilbert Scott in his usual Gothic Revival style. The interior was re-ordered c.1970 but there was a wedding in progress when I visited so I didn't go in. Note the defibrillator on the porch outer wall. Image shows a wider context.

Harrogate, Bilton, St John's church
According to the OS benchmark database there is a cut mark on the south-east face of the church. After countless searches it hasn't been located. Is the entrance on the side of the church newer than the original structure, and is this now covering the benchmark?

Former St John's Vicarage, Bilton Lane
This mid-19th century parsonage ceased church use a long time ago, was at one time a library Image, but is now home to Inspire Intimates, suppliers of lingerie, swimwear and nightwear. What would the Vicar have thought? Listed grade II (list entry 1294249).
