Former Council Offices, Harrogate
Until recently this building overlooking Crescent Gardens was the main site for Harrogate Borough Council, but they have moved elsewhere and the building will soon be converted to apartments of the sort that deserve a mention in the Sunday broadsheet papers. Apparently the most expensive penthouses will sell for £12 million [!], whilst there will be spa facilities, top restaurants, a gym, and even expensive perfumes wafted through the building. The photographer once attended a successful interview in this building, but that was a very long time ago.

Hotel St George
The Hotel St George is now part of the Swallow Hotels group and occupies a prominent site at the south end of Ripon Road, facing the Royal Hall and exhibition facilities. It began life in the mid 19th century and as the town prospered, so the hotel grew in size and magnificence, extending 'round the corner' to face the Royal Baths across Crescent Gardens. Anyone staying here in 1955 could have enjoyed a week's board from 12 guineas [£12.60].
