Royal House, York Place
Situated on the corner of York Place and Station Parade, this property was originally built in 1847 for Thomas Salt, who opened it as a boarding house for spa visitors. It soon became known as the Royal Hotel and was enlarged twice, in 1863 and in 1880. The hotel was requisitioned during WW2, but returned to its former function after the war. It closed as a hotel in 1960 becoming offices and apartments. The building has been refurbished since 2000.
