Prince of Wales Mansions
This 19th century building stands at the junction of Leeds Road and York Place and faces the Stray. The first building on this site appears to have been Hattersley's Hotel, which is mentioned in the York Herald in 1815. One feature of this hotel was that sulphur water was brought from the wells every morning. In 1827 the Lake poets stayed here, but soon after that the hotel must have changed its name to the Brunswick, the nearby railway station of 1848 being named after the hotel. At some point in the 19th century the hotel was entirely rebuilt as the Prince of Wales, and this in turn closed down and was converted into apartments.

The benchmark is cut into the north-west face of the flats, and in the 2nd course of stone and below a blocked-up window. The mark is quite faint.
