Holmfirth railway station (site), Yorkshire
Opened in 1850 by the Huddersfield & Sheffield Junction Railway which became part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway's empire, this was the end of a short branch line from Brockholes. The station closed to passengers in 1959 and completely in 1964. View south towards the buffers. The platform was on the far left and ran just past the front of the building.

Masonic Hall - Station Road
Built 1846 for the Ancient Order of Druids, it has had a variety of uses. In 1917 it was acquired for the Holme Valley Lodge of Freemasons No 652, and they still occupy the premises. See separate shot of Blue Plaque.

This firm of illustrators and publishers was established by James Bamforth in 1870. Perhaps one of its most famous lines was the comic postcard.
