Old milestone
This West Riding CC milestone is on Manchester Road at Lingards Wood on the outskirts of Marsden. It is opposite The Olive Branch PH. It was stripped of what paint was left on it in the summer of 2014 before being repainted. It is very near the edge of the road so does suffer road splash. There is a complete set of these milestones from Huddersfield 2 to 7 but no more until climbing over the summit and down the hill into Saddleworth where Huddersfield 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15 still survive although not all intact. This milestone is Grade II listed 1217291.

Lingards Terrace, Manchester Road, Lingards Wood, Marsden
Looking rather smart. There are similar terraces a little to the west, but they are of blackened stone.

Former Sunday School, School Lane, Lingards Wood, Marsden
This building was not shown on the 1850 OS map, and is captioned 'Sunday School' on a mid-20C map. To the left, further down School Lane, there is a group of former mill-workers' houses called Holme Villas. It is strange that the locality name Lingards Wood is in Marsden and not Lingards. Perhaps it originally meant the wood near to Lingards.
